Applejuice Bakelite Round Buckle Art Deco 1930s to 1940s
This large, circular Bakelite or phenolic resin dress buckle dates to the 1930s or 1940s. This vintage buckle is a simple, swirled design and is one that is a classic from the Art Deco era. The colour is a strong shade of opaque yellow known in the USA and in Bakelite collecting circles as ‘Applejuice’ because it is the shade of this drink. It is not a flat colour but one which has warmth and the look of natural Baltic Amber. The carving is just eight lines but these give a strong 3-D effect to the buckle, whilst the edge is gently curved in semi circles. This Vintage Buckle is a chunky 8mms thick and has a diameter of 10cms at its widest points. Offered in Really good order this Bakelite beauty would be perfect for a collector and just lovely to use too. It works on the ‘tongue’ principle where the moving middle tongue fits into a hole punched in your belt.
