Antique Scandinavian Silver Bar Brooch with Blister Pearl and Marcasite Decoration
This gorgeous small bar brooch has a touch of the Art Nouveau style to it and as it dates to circa 1910 it does fall into that period. Made from Scandinavian silver the brooch bears just a simple 830 stamp indicating its silver content. The focal point of this antique silver brooch is a natural blister pearl. The pearl has an irregular shape and has a lovely creamy lustre. Blister pearls are cut from the inside of a shell rather than forming in the body of a mollusc. This pearl is held in place by four silver claws and it sits in a nice framework of sinuous curved silver dotted with marcasite stones. This antique silver brooch measures almost 2 inches in length and is just over quarter of an inch wide at its middle part. Fastening with a guarded safety pin type clasp this silver brooch is in very good condition with just a darkened patina commensurate with its age. If you prefer your silver jewellery to be really shiny it would be possible to polish this brooch up a little but never put gem or pearl set jewellery in silver dip as it damages delicate stones.
