Antique Pressed Filigree Jewelled Brooch - Vibrant Colours- Early 20th Century
This striking brooch is an open pressed filigree piece in antiqued brass type metal and it is of a very generous size. Set with a selection of multi-faceted glass stones in assorted colours, this is an elegant and wearable piece of antique costume jewellery. The glass jewels used in this brooch are facet cut pointed back pastes, which require generous cupped mounting. They have been carefully selected and placed to give lots of vibrant colour. Each of the jewels have been claw set by hand onto the metal back plate. There is a central flower with the largest amber coloured glass jewel within a five petalled flower . This is surrounded by a circle of filigree work set with blue and green jewels and then to each side of the circle are a ‘B’ and ‘E’ shaped end with yellow jewels topped to the centre with a triangle sporting a red jewel at each end. these are trefoil flowers with three jewels apiece. The colours used include blue, green, red and yellow. This is all pressed filigree, or Gurtler work, which has a slight patina to it and it has a light construction making it sit comfortably on most fabrics without dragging down. This is the kind of jewellery that has the tag “Bohemian’ but I wonder if the trombone type clasp which holds the pin means this could be an early 20th Century brooch from France. This brooch is in very good condition. A ‘statement piece’ it measures 3 inches by 1.45 inches and has an open 3-D effect. It would sit beautifully on a hat band or belt but would equally add detail and interest to a large lapel.
