Antique Double Buckle Belt Extender - Butterflies - Circa 1900s - Edwardian Belt Buckle
Butterflies were a popular motif and appear on many late Victorian and Edwardian artworks, fabrics, prints and objects. Used in a subtle cut-out design six butterflies appear on this lovely buckle/belt extender. This is a silver coloured two piece buckle with two fixed panel pieces either side of it to make a statement show of a slim waistline. It has real impact with a large size fastener to the centre and two linked panels to each side. This robust antique double buckle belt piece has a pierced and cast design. Gently curving, the belt buckle and each panel has butterfly shaped cutouts to the centre and decorative cut out work all around them. It is in excellent condition. To the reverse it is marked EPNS on every individual panel to indicate it is Electroplated Nickel Silver. At each end there is a rolling belt loop to allow easy attachment of an elasticated or ribbon belt. This rolling end will accommodate a ribbon or belt with a width of up to 1.5 inches. There is a curved guard and a panel hook and eye to fasten it. Measuring approximately 10.5 inches in length by 2.25 inches at its widest mid point this lovely silver plated double buckle belt would make a great fastener for a belt, would accommodate a silk scarf used as a belt or would rightly take its place in a collection of Edwardian fashion Accessories or English Antique Buckles. I have not deep cleaned this buckle as I like the antique effect when a slight patina has built on the piece. If you wanted this silver plated buckle to shine “like new” it would be very easy to clean it up with silver cleaner or to buff it with a silver cloth.
