Antique Bohemian Brooch circa 1900 - 1920 set with Faux Opals and Pearls
This is a particularly pretty costume brooch in a tear-drop shape. It is made from pressed brass filigree which has been silver coated and has a leaf-like overlapping border. The metal finish is pristine to the reverse but shows the original brass at the front on the high points due to age and handling. This does not detract from the brooch in any way but adds to its antique appearance. This dainty pin has 6 faux opal jewels and 3 faux pearls all in collet or cup-shaped settings. The 'opals' are domed oval cabochon jewels (4 large, 2 small) made of foiled glass and glowing with pink, purple and blue hues which compliment the creamy lustre of the 'pearls'. The construction of the piece is excellent with a robust white metal pin and unguarded 'c' type closure. This gorgeous old brooch measures approx 1.5 inches by 1 inch at the widest points and has a depth of 1cm for the Jewel-set surface. This brooch is continental European, most probably Bohemian but possibly French and it dates to the early years of the 20th Century.
