An Edwardian to 1920s Diamanté Sew-on Ornament for Hat or Frock
This lovely diamanté sew-on ornament in the form of a stylised bow dates from the transitional time at the beginning of the 20th Century. Maybe from the Edwardian period or possibly as late as the roaring twenties! This sew-on jewel is made of a brass-type metal with openwork to allow the colour of the dress etc to show through and there are 37 individual faceted glass crystal stones making it sparkle. The sparkle has a lovely old look to it where the stones have turned a slight champagne colour due to their age. Each of the 'diamond' stones has been hand set and is held in place by 4 claws. To the back of the jewel there are two closed loops, ( photo five shows them best) these would have been used to sew the ornament onto a dress or even onto thin or wide ribbon. It could be used to add vintage sparkle to a hat, belt, handbag or hairdo. This hair ornament would also be perfect for bridal use on its own or to be incorporated into a hair band with flowers or feathers. The vintage ornament measures7.5cms by 2cms at its widest and longest points. It is in good order with a little aged patina to the metalwork and the aforementioned 'champagne' jewels which just adds to its antique appeal.
