Here is a large sized Victorian Sterling Silver watch fob medallion. This high quality and heavy fancy fob has pierced and engraved decorations to both sides. There are different engravings to each surface but there are matched traditional shield shape vacant cartouche on each side . The fob bears the silver hallmark for Birmingham 1899 as well as the maker's mark 'H.P" for silversmith Henry Pop of Pitsford Street, Birmingham.. These silver medal-like fobs were usually worn on watch chains and were also used as awards for sporting and academic achievement. They are often found with engraving which tells more about how they were used and why they were presented. So this nice old silver fob medal having these vacant cartouche on each side is suitable for you to engrave your initials or other details if wished. The fob is in very good order with just the surface scratches you would expect on a piece of jewellery of this age. This silver fob measures a little over 4cms by 3cms approx at its widest points and it also has a large oval silver bolt ring to attach it to a watch chain although I don't think the oval is original to the item but it would serve it well if attaching it to a watch chain was intended.
