A Victorian Micro Mosaic Bar Brooch - Circa 1880s
This is a very pretty Victorian floral bar brooch which dates from the last decade of the 19th Century. It is made up from tiny glass pieces, or tessarae, which form a little picture. In this case there is an oval with terracotta red border and inlays of two white and yellow daisies, a five petal white flower and three little blue and yellow forget-me-knots with green leaves. The oval floral panel sits in the middle of a turquoise blue Bar which has white flowers and green leaves set in it.This neat pin would have been hand worked and the little glass tiles have been set into a gilt metal mount. This is a genuine Antique jewel and was probably made in Italy, although pieces of this kind were also produced in England in the Victorian period. It is 1.5 inches in length and almost half an inch across. This brooch is in very good condition with its very long pin securing with an old fashioned 'c' type clasp.
