A Silver Watch Fob by Thomas Fattorini - Hallmarked Birmingham 1932

A sterling silver fob or medallion from the 1930s era is on offer here.   The fob was assayed in Birmingham and has the Anchor mark for Birmingham, the Lion Passant to show it is 925 fineness English Sterling SIlver and the letter 'H' which indicates it was hallmarked in 1932.  As well as the hallmark there are the letters T.F. which indicates that the fob was manufactured by the famous makers Thomas Fattorini at their Trafalgar Medal Works in Regent Street, Birmingham, England.  Fattorini's are one of this country's most renowned makers of badges, medals, jewellery and other small items.  The Fattorini family also have factories in Skipton, Yorkshire and Bolton, Lancashire and have been makers from 1827, throughout the VIctorian period onwards. Indeed they are still in business today! This is a really nice fob with its circular shape further enhanced with engine engraved decoration and top scrolling design.  There is a plain mounted circular ribbon which goes all around the edge as another area which could have been used for engraving with details about the recipient or the reason for presentation ( such as a sporting event, award or family occasion ). The cartouch in the middle of this vintage silver fob is in the shape of a shield and is 'vacant' which means empty and free to be engraved with initials if you want this.  This silver fob is in great order with just a few surface scratches to the silver which is what you would expect on an item of antique or vintage jewellery .  The fob medal measures 3cms by a little over 2cms approx and has a fixed loop to the top holding a large bolt ring to allow it to be attached to a watch chain.
