A Lozenge Shape Antique Micro Mosaic Brooch - Victorian Pin
Dating from the last quarter of the 19th Century this Italian Micro Mosaic Brooch has lots of very tiny glass tiles held in place between twisted rope effect wires. The little tiles or 'tesserae' sit in a gold-tone frame to make up a pattern and the metal mount has a ball design in the Etruscan style on the two curved edges. The centre of this antique brooch shows a daisy type flower picked out in shades of pink with a green middle. Around this is a myriad of little leaf tiles in yellow graduating to a darker green with a neat single white row of rectangular tiles circling that. There are four fan shaped white sections in feather shaped tiles in the Florentine style. These white fans are held inside a band of coloured tiles - two within blue, one in pink and one in green. Various other colours and tiles make up the final piece. Offered in good condition this brooch is around 120 years old. It measures approximately 1.5inches by half an inch and fastens with an old fashioned 'c' type hook to the elongated back pin.
