19th Century Silver Slide Buckle - Floral Buckle - 800 Silver Fineness (Sold)

This lovely floral buckle dates from the 19th Century.  It is what is known as a 'Slide' or 'Ribbon' buckle as it simply slides over a fabric belt or ribbon.  It would work well on a hat band or even to help decorate and hold a scarf in place too .  This nice antique buckle is made in the repousse style, pressed or hammered out of a sheet of metal.  The buckle is made of silver with a 800 fineness,  less silver content than Sterling Silver which is 925 parts pure. This leads me to think it may be from Continental Europe.  Along with the 800 mark for fineness are the letters SW which might be the makers initials.  The style of the design is reminiscent of Dutch 17th Century things, all generous full blown flower heads and swirls and foliate designs.  The central oval opening has a smooth bar for the fabric to slide over and a neat rope effect pattern around it.   It is lovely and it is in excellent condition.  I have left this silver floral buckle uncleaned as the patina that has built up on it adds a really nice antique effect to this piece of jewellery.  This silver floral buckle measures 2.5 inches by 1.75 inches so it is a nice useful size.
