1960's Victorian Revival Engraved Bangle in Heavy Gold Plated Finish(SOLD)
This is a fab Bangle in the Victorian Revival style. It is heavy and beautifully made and looks just like a real gold bracelet. This is because it is made from 9ct Gold Metal Core which means it has a 9ct Gold surface over another metal and is similar to a high quality gold plate. The 9ct Gold surface is thick enough to have allowed a lovely foliate hand engraved pattern on one side, whilst the other side is plain with just a small area around the clasp with engraved detail. I would estimate this bangle is a mid 1960's to early 1970's piece. It opens by pushing a button and has a retainer device inside for smooth opening and closing. The retainer has a patent number - 897224 which means it cannot pre-date 1962. The surface all over is good and bright with hardly any signs of wear. On the inside, near to the closures, there are the makers initials 'R & W' for Reynolds and Westwood Jewellery Manufacturers of Vyse Street, Birmingham. The bracelet is also marked with the words ' 9ct Metal Core'. It has a width of almost 1 inch and a thickness of one eighth of an inch. The outside circumference is 8.25 inches closed. The closed inside circumference of the bangle is 7 inches approx and the inner circumference open is about 9 inches approximately so it should fit over a fairly large hand when open.
