1960's Floral Sequinned Clutch Purse - Beadwork Flowers and Leaves in Soft Pastel Tones (SOLD)
Clutch purses are so pretty and this vintage clutch bag has been adorned with clustered layers of iridescent sequins and finished with flowers and leaves to both sides. Hand beaded, this purse would be 'Empire Made' most likely in Hong Kong in the 1960s where they were highly skilled at creating beautiful work of this kind. There is clever use of cased seed beads to add the pastel flowers, one a reddish pink and the other a soft apricot in colour. The cased beads have also been used to apply the foliate decoration, with groups of green leaves trailing onto the sequin background. The clutch purse is lined with a cream satin type lining and is in very good condition. I have spotted a small area of darkening behind the sequins near to one of the flowers, it is hard to detect and is only slightly visible in some light at some angles but I mention it for accuracy! It really doesn't detract from the bag in anyway and the only way I could show it in my photos was to use enhanced focus on it ( see photo five).Fasteners and frame are of a silver toned chrome finish with a kissing type clasp made up of two shiny chrome balls. The measurements are length approx 24 cms or 9 inches, and width 12 cms or 4.5 inches so large enough for an iPhone, some lipstick and a small purse and keys to fit in it! The soft and shiny colours would also put it into the perfect accessory for a bride so consider this for wedding use too.
