1960s Blue Flower Costume Brooch Designer Adrien Mann

This brooch is typical of the high end style statement  jewellery that you see in all the best books about collecting antique and vintage costume jewellery.  It is in very good vintage condition with just the natural patina wear to the metal that you would expect from a piece of jewellery some 60 plus years old. Just looking at it you can see it s a beauty! There is sadly no signature or makers marks on the back. Research has guided me to identical pieces signed  by the London designer Adrien Mann. This is therefore an un-signed piece from his company; likely it was supplied with a tie on tag rather than having a back plate with a signature attached.   It iis a large open flower set with facet cut lead glass crystals that are not foiled to the back so rely on their cut and clarity for their shine. The stones are all in a rich, deep shade of blue.  The central blue glass stone is a cabouchon-type domed jewel with a golden back and is a little larger than half an inch in diameter.  It is held in place by a myriad of fleur-de-lys individual claws; there are a further nine marquise shaped blue glass crystals in petal shapes held in with golden fleur-de-lys claws too. Each of these being an inch in length and half an inch across at their widest part. These stones make up the petals of the daisy type flower and are also used for the two leaves, one either side of curved stem. This is a large statement of a brooch and will not be ignored! Vintage Brooches from this era were often hand assembled with every claw being shut by hand in much the same way that precious stones and diamonds are set.  The  diameter of this vintage brooch is 2.5 inches with a 3.75 inch length overall so it has size and impact. The brooch fastens with a long pin and a secure roll over type clasp.  This brooch would be perfect to wear and would hold its own in a collection of Mod Swinging Sixties vintage jewellery. It has been particularly difficult for me to get the exact colours right in the photos but I am sure that this vintage costume brooch will delight who ever purchases it.

Adrien Mann was a  London-based British costume jewellery designer. His company was founded in 1945 by Adrien and his wife. Their designer jewellery was credited with restoring a bit of glamour to post-war Britain. 

Their  costume jewellery  featured hand-set faux gems, gold plating, faux pearls and eye- catching on-trend styles.

During the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Adrien  Mann’s  brand's exquisite, upmarket runway accessories were regularly used in fashion shows by Dior,  Chanel, Yves St, Laurent and Nina Ricci. 

Adrien Mann pieces frequently featured in  the pages of premier fashion magazines like Harpers Bazaar. 

The Company folded in the 1990s.
