1960s Black and Copper Evening Bag with Chain - never used
In the 1950s and 1960s from their workshops in Smithfield, London C.F. Reader made handbags and purses for the late Queen Elizabeth the Second and for her fashion-conscious sister the late Princess Margaret. C.F. Reader continued to manufacture high quality handbags, occasion bags and evening purses here in Great Britain for many decades. This one is a nice example of such a vintage bag; an early 1960s evening purse. The material is a black lame with metallic copper and brown coloured geometric patterns. It has a pleated finish to the body of the bag which gives it a glamorous effect and also allows for expansion - so useful when you want to fill it up with essentials such as your mobile phone, purse, keys and lipstick. Inside it has a plain peachy beige coloured lining with a mirror pocket complete with a small mirror still in its original paper wrapping. It has the maker’s label saying “Made in England” with the monogrammed CFR for the aforementioned C F Reader. The lame is used to cover the frame, with a golden 'kissing' clasp and a chunky looped type gold metal chain handle. Size is approximately 5.5 inches by 8 inches with a 12 inch chain. The condition is great - I don’t think it has ever been used!
