1960s - 1970s Stratton Compact in Original Box - Engine Engraved Decoration on Mauve Enamel (sold)
When in comes to the finest British-made compacts from mid-century then Stratton is a name synonymous with both good design and quality manufacturing. This is a most unusual and striking design from Stratton. This is an enamelled vintage powder compact with a gold toned metal used throughout. The front of this vintage powder compact has engine engraved geometric work in gold on a purple or mauve enamel ground. The design is reminiscent of Spirograph work where repeated and precise patterns are used to make further patterns. The reverse of the compact has engine turned decoration to the central area in the form of lines and points and the Stratton signature has pride of place in the middle. Inside the compact is the British Patent Number : 764125. The shape of the compact is known as 'The Queen Convertible' and was in production from 1957 until 1997. This particular model was the largest compact that Stratton manufactured in a round shape with an indented edge pattern. The 'convertible' is exactly that - a powder compact designed to take a block of solid powder or to use with the addition of a suitable sieve for loose powder. This fabulous vintage compact is in excellent, unused condition throughout and comes in its original cardboard case with Stratton branding and the words ' Made in England' on it. There is also a round paper label with instructions relating to the use of your powder compact. This vintage compact also has a black fabric sleeve which was designed to protect it when it was slipped into your handbag.This Stratton compact is just over 3 inches in diameter and about 1cm in depth.
