1950's Reverse Carved Lucite Brooch - Blue Flowers and Leaves (Sold)

This is a really lovely 1950's brooch with lots of soft blue flowers plus a couple of  faded moss green leaves.  The flowers and leaves  have been reverse carved by hand. The brooch is made of Lucite which is Dupont's Trade name for their acrylic plastic which they patented in 1936.  ICI used the name Perspex for their similar material.  In the Jewellery trade the name ' Lucite' is favoured for all acrylic pieces as it was the most widely coined term for American Jewelry. Lucite brooches from the 1930s, 1940's and 1950's are becoming firm favourites with collectors.  Just recently a collection of these early plastic pins appeared on the BBC Antiques Roadshow.   It is easy to see why they appeal - each one has been hand produced so there are natural variations in the style and design, the material is light making the brooches very easy to wear.  The 'see-through' nature of the Lucite makes the brooch take on a different appearance when pinned onto various coloured clothes.  This lovely 1950's brooch has been photographed on a white background and a deep green background to illustrate the way it looks on different outfits.  This collectable brooch has a rectangular shape with sheared off corners and angled edges for extra design detail. These edges give the brooch a reflective rim - the flowers and leaves are mirrored in the eges of the design.at certain angles. It measures 5.5cms by 3cms and has been mounted on a brass backed pin fastener.  This vintage brooch is in excellent condition.
