1950s Filigree Flower with Ball Centre Scarf Ring - Aluminium Scarf Clip - West Germany
Here we have a very pretty vintage scarf ring in a circular form. The outer edge of the vintage scarf clip consists of a curlicue border and then there is a delicate filigree ring of petals in 3-D like a Daisy type flower. Then there is a panel of creamy pearlised Lucite under this raised flower which looks very like Mother of Pearl. In the centre on top of the mother of pearl effect panel is an open-work silver tone flower. The scarf clip has a ring back and is made of silver tone anodised aluminium which is extremely light so very suitable for the purpose. People always think of Aluminium as a very modern metal but it was first used in jewellery manufacture in the Victorian era and it was commercially in use during the 1860's. Boxes, jewellery and other tiny objects made from it were featured in the Paris Expositon Universelle for the first time in 1855. It also became a popular material for costume jewellery just after World War two and is often found used for necklace chains and bracelets in the late 1940s and early 1950s. This scarf ring has a pearlised plastic inlay which imitates mother of pearl and an elaborately decorated border with a highlighted coloured black background to make the pattern stand out. Measuring almost 1.5 inches in diameter this scarf clip is in very good condition with the clip holding it in place when in use. It is marked W. Germany for West German made.
