1950's Austrian Crystal Necklace (SOLD)
It is simple to see why vintage jewellery collectors love Austrian crystals. This necklace is a super example of the neat style popular in the 1950's. Austrian crystal is a good quality lead glass that has been faceted and then irridized to make it glow with a rainbow of colours. You can see pinks, mauves, blues, yellows and greens and those colours change as the necklace catches the light. This kind of crystal is often know as the Aurora Borealis - the night sky - as each crystal has the twinkling sparkle of the stars at night! This example is a super 1950's crystal collar with the gems going the whole way round the neck and just a little bit of detail to the centre, where three separate gems have been applied to make a repeating triangular pattern.
