1950s Aluminium Floral Scarf Clip from Germany - Daisy Scarf Ring

Here we have a lovely vintage scarf clip in a circular shape.  The design has the look of a real Marcasite jewel but is a clever imitation made entirely of anodised aluminium.  The scarf ring is a 3-D effect large daisy or chrysanthemum type flower in a silver toned sparkly finish. The Daisy and butterfly are in relief on an intricate background of raised silver patterns on a blackened background. The scarf clip has a ring back with its clip marked “Germany” and is made of silver tone anodised aluminium which is extremely light so very suitable for the purpose. People always think of Aluminium as a very modern  metal but it was first used in jewellery manufacture in the UK in Victorian era and it was commercially in use during the 1860's.   Boxes, jewellery and other tiny objects made from it were featured in the Paris Expositon Universelle for the first time in 1855. It also became a popular material for costume jewellery just after World War two and is often found used for necklace chains and bracelets in the late 1940s up to the early 1960s.  This scarf ring would add a nice floral touch to a plain scarf  with its highlighted coloured black background to make the pattern stand out and to make each little false Marcasite look just like a real one!   Measuring  almost 1.5 inches in diameter  this scarf clip is in very good condition with the clip holding it in place when in use.
