1950s - 60s Beaded and Sequinned Handbag - Creamy White Perfect for Bride (SOLD)
This evening purse dates from the late1950s into the early 1960s and is absolutely covered with tiny round pearlised glass beads and shiny sequins. These jewels have all been hand stitched in an intricate pattern to completely cover both sides of the bag. The label within says 'Hand Made in Hong Kong'. Many lovely beadwork bags were imported into the UK from Hong Kong when it was part of the British Empire. It is exquisite! The bag is a good size being approximately 5.5 inches by 7 inches. It fastens with a gilt kissing type clasp and has a good, robust gold tone snake chain handle, which is 12 inches long in total. It is a convertable purse as the chain handle can be neatly slipped inside to make it into a clutch bag. The interior has a pocket to hold a mirror which has just come unstitched for a few centimetres at one corner, it would be simple to pop one or two little stitches here to hold it back if you wanted to. Apart from this little fault the bag is in excellent, clean condition. Its colour and the rich beading would make it very suitable for bridal wear or for adding to a collection of vintage handbags and purses.
