1940s/1950s Lucite Brooch with Apricot Rose

A large Apricot rose with an open bloom and a collection of green leaves around it decorate this fab vintage brooch.  The apricot or pale peach coloured rose along with green leaves have been carved into the reverse of this Lucite brooch from the 1940s - 1950s era.  It is a simple round domed disc so is perfect to place at the neckline of a blouse or onto a lapel. This type of brooch is becoming increasingly collected after a group of Lucite brooches appeared on the BBC's TV Programme - Antiques Roadshow. Lucite is Dupont's Trade name for their acrylic plastic which they patented in 1936.  ICI used the name Perspex for their similar material.  In the Jewellery trade the name ' Lucite' is favoured for all acrylic pieces as it was the most widely coined term for American Jewelry. Lucite brooches from the 1930s, 1940's and 1950's are becoming firm favourites with collectors.    It is easy to see why they appeal - every carved brooch  has been hand produced so there are natural variations in the style and design, the material is light making the brooches very easy to wear.  The 'see-through' nature of the Lucite makes the brooch take on a different appearance when pinned onto various coloured clothes. This vintage lucite brooch is mounted on a white metal back pin which fastens with a secure roll-over type clasp. It measures approximately 4cms in diameter and is almost half a cm thick.  It is in excellent order.  Perfect to wear or to add to a collection of early plastic jewellery.
