1940's Silver and Marcasite Dress Clip in a Stylised Bow Design
This is a super chic dress clip dating from the 1940's. It has a stylised tied bow design and is made from silver and set with natural marcasite stones. The silver is marked '935' making it likely that the clip originated in Continental Europe and making it slightly more pure silver than sterling. This dress clip has a nice long, thin back clip with two rows of pointed 'teeth' so it will fasten very securely and would lend itself really well to wear as a hairclip or hairslide too. Dress Clips are one of the most versatile pieces of vintage and antique jewellery as they were designed to fasten to many garments - the sweetheart neckline of a 1940's evening dress, the hatband of a favourite hat, the open buttonhole on a winter coat the list of uses goes on.... Some dress clips are suitable to suspend over a chain or ribbon to make a necklace and this particular one would do that with style too! Measuring 2 inches by three quarters of an inch and in excellent condition this clip is a really great piece of vintage costume jewellery from the 1940's era.
