1940s French Lucite Brooch with Two Pink CarnatioNs On hold

This is a really unusual reverse carved Lucite brooch dating from the 1940's.  It depicts two open carnation blooms in pink  - one so pale it’s almost white and the other rich and strong there’s also some pale silvery leaves. These flowers and leaves have been intaglio carved into a Lucite block.  The block is then mounted onto a gilt metal rope twist frame all around the edge. The chunky deep carved Lucite block is held in place with a series of pronged gilt metal claws.   This double mounted technique usually indicates that the piece originated in France.  This pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics .  Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type.  The most common theme for them is flowers, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted!   This pink carnations brooch is in excellent order and it measures approximately 5cms by 3.75cms with a thickness of 1cm.  It fastens with an trombone type clasp ( another indicator of its French origins)  and has been mounted on a brass pin back.
