1940's Deep Carved Chocolate Brown Casein Double Buckle
Offered here is a delicious chocolate brown coloured Bakelite-era early plastic buckle. A super item for your sewing projects or to add a touch of Art Deco style to any belt or even a hatband! This shell shaped buckle is actually made from the milk-based plastic, casein. This vintage item is in excellent, shiny condition. The double buckle is made up of two halves which connect with a metal chrome plated hook and eye and it has metal panel on both sides for sewing the ends of the belt over. I love to see the real small brass screws that have been employed to hold the chrome strips and connector to the plastic. The metal appears good and shiny with no rust or corrosion. Dating from the 1940's this chocolate buckle has a hand-carved decoration on each panel and is robust enough to use on your vintage clothes or modern outfits. This buckle would also be good for a button and buckle collector as it is a great example of Art Deco deep -carved early plastic work. Pictured with a wooden inch ruler approximate measurements are four inches along and 2.25 inches at the widest point tapering to just 1.25 inches at the middle
