1940's Casein Buckles
Offered here are two Bakelite-era early plastic buckles. These bow shaped buckles are actually made from the milk-based plastic, casein. Both of these vintage items are in excellent, shiny condition. One is a milky mint green colour ( the individual photo shows the truest representation of the green colour) whilst the other is a rich burgundy shade. You could, if you wished, join one half of one to one half of the other and get two two-coloured buckles! Each buckle is made up of two halves which connect with a metal hook and they have a metal panel on both sides for sewing the ends of the belt over. The metal appears to be chrome plated and is good and shiny "like new" with no rust or corrosion. Dating from the 1940's they have a hand-carved decoration on them and both are robust enough to use on your vintage clothes or modern outfits. They would also be good for a button and buckle collector. Approximate measurements are almost 7cms ( 3ins) long and 3.5cms (1.5ins) at the widest point tapering to just half an inch at the middle. The price is for the two buckles, one in each colour.
