1940's Lucite Brooch - Crinoline Lady in Reverse Painted Style

This vintage 1940s Lucite brooch is a hand made Crinoline Lady Pin.  Dating from the  1940s this old brooch is in very good condition and is a nice size of 2.25 inches by just about an inch and a half by 2 eights of an inch thick.  The edges on this vintage Lucite brooch have been cut out in the shape of a lady which is charming.  The lady is dressed in a blue and white crinoline gown and has a yellow and white picture bonnet and parasol. To the reverse of the pin there is silver paint to back the design and in the good old 'make and mend' way it is naively created with what appears to be a piece of sticking plaster and an old tie pin as part of its construction!  This brass pin has a guarded closure.   This reverse painted Lucite brooch is in good condition and would be a special gift or a good addition to a collection of Bakelite era and early plastic jewellery.

This  vintage pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics .  Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type.  The most common theme for them is flowers, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted!  Other favourites include, as in this case, the crinoline lady, ships, birds and names.
