Offered here is a gorgeous mixed coloured Bakelite-era early plastic buckle. Within this dress accessory are marbled colours of black, silver, gold and cream shiny and lovely. A super item for your sewing projects or to add a touch of Art Deco style to any belt or even a hatband! This hexagon shaped buckle is actually made from the milk-based plastic, casein. This vintage item is in excellent condition. The double buckle is made up of two halves which connect with a brass hook and eye and it has two strategically places holes on both sides for sewing to the ends of the belt . The metal has been heat set into the casein. Dating from the 1930s to 1940s this is an Art Deco inspired piece. This buckle would also be good for a button and buckle collector as it is a great example of Art Deco early plastic work. Furthermore it might be of interest to those who like the work of famous designer Lea Stein and the colours, pattern and look of this item are very similar to the effects she created decades later. Its approximate measurements are 2.75 inches by 2.25 inches at the widest points.
