Reverse Carved Lucite Brooch 1940s - 1950s Orange Flowers(SOLD)

This is a delicious Lucite brooch which has a really unusual shape too.  It is a rectangle with three of the four corner points cut off!  The main colour is burnt orange with four open naturalistic flowers in this colour growing from stems with two green leaves also.  This type of brooch is becoming increasingly collected after a group of Lucite brooches appeared on the BBC's TV Programme - Antiques Roadshow. Lucite is Dupont's Trade name for their acrylic plastic which they patented in 1936.  ICI used the name Perspex for their similar material.  In the Jewellery trade the name ' Lucite' is favoured for all acrylic pieces as it was the most widely coined term for American Jewelry. Lucite brooches from the 1930s, 1940's and 1950's are becoming firm favourites with collectors.  Just recently a collection of these early plastic pins appeared on the BBC Antiques Roadshow.   It is easy to see why they appeal - each one has been hand produced so there are natural variations in the style and design, the material is light making the brooches very easy to wear.  The 'see-through' nature of the Lucite makes the brooch take on a different appearance when pinned onto various coloured clothes. This brooch is mainly in the orangey brown colourway and the flowers and leaves reflect in the rim of the pin also.  This vintage brooch is mounted on a silver tone back pin which fastens with a 'c' type clasp. It measures approximately 1.5 inches square and is .25 of an inch thick.  It is in very nice condition and is ready to add to your collection of early plastic vintage jewellery.
