1940s - 1950s Lucite Brooch with a Trio of Raspberry Roses (Sold)

This trio of naturalistic  raspberry pink roses with grey green leaves has been hand-carved to create this floral vintage brooch.    This type of brooch is becoming very sought after with the increasing interest in bakelite era plastics.  This round  vintage brooch is made from Lucite and dates from the late 1940s into the mid 1950s. Lucite is Dupont's Trade name for their acrylic plastic which they patented in 1936.  ICI used the name Perspex for their similar material.  In the Jewellery trade the name ' Lucite' is favoured for all acrylic pieces as it was the most widely coined term for American Jewelry. Just recently a collection of these early plastic pins appeared on the BBC Antiques Roadshow.   It is easy to see why they appeal - each one has been hand produced so there are natural variations in the style and design, the material is light making the brooches very easy to wear.  The 'see-through' nature of the Lucite makes the brooch take on a different appearance when pinned onto various coloured clothes. This brooch is clear with mainly rich velvety raspberry coloured roses  with faded grey green leaves.   Both the roses and leaves reflect in the rim of the pin also.  The rim has been given a stepped appearance by the carving of two lines around the outside edge.  This vintage brooch is mounted on a silver tone back pin which fastens with a curved guarded type clasp. It measures slightly over 4cms in diameter and is almost 1 cm thick.  It is in excellent condition and is ready to add to your collection of early plastic vintage jewellery.
