1930s to 1940s Lucite Roses Brooch on Metal Gallery (SOLD)

This is a really unusual reverse carved Lucite brooch dating from the  end of the 1930s to the early1940's. It depicts two open rose blooms in pink and burgundy red which have been intaglio carved into a Lucite block.   The roses are surrounded by nice, detailed leaves in shades of green. The block is then mounted onto a  beige background within a gilt metal back panel.  Four curled gilt metal edges decorate the piece and there is a strong Art Deco design to this lovely early Lucite brooch.  This double mounted technique usually indicates that the piece originated in France. This pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics . Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type. The most common theme for them is flowers, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted! This pink roses brooch is in excellent order and it measures approximately 4cms by 3cms with a thickness of 1.5cms on the Lucite panel with the Art Deco Gilt Metal Mount making the whole piece approximately 5cms by 3.5 cms.. It fastens with an old fashioned French or trombone type clasp and has a brass pin . This vintage pin is in very good condition.
