1930s to 1940s Lucite Floral Brooch on Metal Gallery

This is a really unusual reverse carved Lucite brooch dating from the  end of the 1930s to the early1940's. It depicts flowers in bloom in pink, mauve, yellow and pale blue which have been intaglio carved into a Lucite block.   These flowers and buds are surrounded by leaves in shades of  faded silver green. The block is then mounted onto a shiny mirror green paper background within a gilt metal back panel.  Curled gilt metal edges decorate the piece and  whilst the Lucite panel is circular the gilded panel is an octagonal shape.  This double mounted technique usually indicates that the piece originated in France.  Another indicator that this is indeed a vintage French brooch is the use of a trombone style fastener to retain the gilt pin on the reverse. This pin is a great collectable for anyone interested in Bakelite era and early plastics . Lucite was Dupont's trade name for their acrylic plastic material which they patented in the 1930's and is usually the name given to brooches and pins of this type. The most common theme for them is flowers, some abstract and Art Deco in design, others very detailed - so you can tell exactly which flower is being depicted! This vintage flowers brooch is in excellent order and it measures approximately 37 mm in diameter on the Lucite roundel with a thickness of 0.5 cms on this Lucite panel with the  Gilt Metal Mount making the whole piece approximately 4.5cms by 4.5 cms.. It fastens with the aforementioned  old fashioned French or trombone type clasp and has a brass pin .  You can see the white cardboard backing to the reverse and this is held in place with four little retainers. This vintage pin is in very good condition.
