1930s Art Deco Dress Clip - Silver set with Marcasite
This is a classic Art Deco design dress clip dating from the 1930's. It is extremely chic and has all the features associated with the Art Deco period. Made from silver set with natural marcasite stones this dainty clip is unmarked as far as I can see but I think it is of French origin so it is likely that the tiny hallmarks used on French jewellery have got hidden on this piece. This dress clip is a really tiny size being just over 2cms by 1.5cms. What it lacks in size in makes up for in style! The back plate to the clip is full with two sharp 'teeth' or prongs on it and one pointed prong on the reverse of the front so it will fasten very securely and would lend itself really well to wear as a hairclip or hairslide too. Dress Clips are one of the most versatile pieces of vintage and antique jewellery as they were designed to fasten to many garments - the neckline of a 1930's evening dress, the hatband of a favourite hat, the open buttonhole on a winter coat the list of uses goes on.... Some dress clips are suitable to suspend over a chain or ribbon to make a necklace and this particular one would do that very well! in excellent condition this dressclip is a really great piece of vintage costume jewellery to wear, gift or add to a collection of vintage jewellery.
Dress Clips are a really versatile piece of vintage costume jewellery. If you would like to know more about other ways to wear and enjoy vintage dress clips do take a look at 'How to Wear Those Dress Clips' which is on this website in the 'Information and In the Press Section'.
