1930s -1940s Brooch - Bakelite Horse and Rider with Hound mounted on Dark Carved Wood
This is a great example of a 1930s to 1940's brooch made of mixed materials - Wood for the base and Bakelite for the detailed figures. It features a hand-carved Bakelite horse with jockey in full gallop accompanied by their trusty dog. The hand cut figures have been further enhanced with the addition of over painting to show a brown horse, a rider with a red jacket, black hat and cream jodhpurs and a black and white hound. The hand work is further evident in the two little brass screws both visible from the reverse side of the brooch, which hold the horse, rider and dog in place. The wood appears to be oak and is a nice foil for the three dimensional action design. A perfect pin with an equestrian theme that would look great on a tweed jacket or would be will be just the thing for your vintage jewellery collection! The 1930s - 1940's brooch measures 5.5cms by 4cms, fastens with a long metal pin with simple ‘c’ shaped guard and is in excellent condition.
