This sparkly hair comb dates from the late 1920's into the 1930's. It is made from the early plastic Celluloid which was used to imitate tortoiseshell. The colour is a light amber brown with a stronger darker brown marbled decoration like real tortoiseshell. It is set with 24 bright diamante stones and lots of little silver pins and is most likely from France. A lot of lovely early plastic jewellery and accessories were made in France in the Art Deco era and they often have the inset diamante and inset pin decoration that we see on this haircomb. With just two prongs or tines this comb was a side comb. It would sit in either long or bobbed hair. Measuring approximately 2 inches by 2 and a quarter inches the comb has a wavy decoration to the top edge where the line of diamantes are placed. This comb is in excellent condition.
