1910 - 1925 Beaded Evening Purse with Fringes
This is a really lovely example of beadwork from the first quarter of the 20th Century. This bag has been handmade from real silk satin with a netted beadwork overlay. Dating from between 1910 to the mid 1920's the bag has a pretty design of a kind of stylised fruit or flower surrounded by a leaf like pattern. The whole design is in tiny pink beads with grey, green and yellow beads on a black patterned background with looped bugle beading for a tassle. A pink and black border pattern has been worked around the top of the bag and over the handle. This evening purse is in a Dorothy Bag style with an elasticated drawstring to pull up the top of the purse. The condition of the bag is excellent with all beads present and no rips or stains. It would be possible to use the bag with great care. It is a good size, being just over 17 inches from the top of the handle to the bottom of the tassle loops with 6.5 inches in width. (44cms x16.5cms) This would be an excellent item to use for interior decoration or to add to a collection of beadwork bags.
