Victorian Sentimental Brooch Silver - Auld Lang Syne (SOLD)
'Auld Lang Syne' is the message on this silver and gold brooch from the end of the Victorian era. Nice that itis sterling silver and has been assayed in Chester Similar in style to the popular name brooches this is a rare example of this kind of sentimental jewellery from the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th Century. I was delighted to find this one and I know that whoever chooses to buy it will delight in it! There is that Victorian love of 'over decoration' going on here. You imagine that the jeweller wanted to decorate everything as much as possible and here they have done just that! A lozenge shaped silver brooch has had a ball decoration applied around the outer edge then there is some engine engraved decoration which has been finished off with applied flower heads in rose and yellow gold and the message 'Auld Lang Syne' in scripted letters. This brooch is in really good condition and has a Chester hallmark for the year 1900. It also has the makers mark 'R.J.W' .
