Here are three perfect Art Nouveau silver buttons with a classical head design. The outside edges are irregular and swirly and the figure is surrounded by a floral border. The face shows great strength, so I would not be at all suprised if this figure represented a classical Greek or Roman Goddess. The buttons all bear the hallmark for Birmingham assay office - an anchor, the lion to show sterling silver and the letter 'c' for the year 1902. There are also the makers marks 'S.M.L'. The buttons are marked on the front decorative surface, a common practice at the beginning of the 20th Century. The antique silver buttons are all in excellent condition with just faint surface scratches. The buttons have a self shank, which means that the loop at the back is also made of sterling silver. This loop is large enough for a safety pin to be placed through to allow a button to be worn as a brooch. The price is for the set of 3. Each silver button measures approox 2.5cms in diameter.
